Chapter 1 part 2

I stand up, out of my combat stance and sheathe one of my swords.

Where do you think they came from then?

=He too lowered his stance=

What, the Deepwoldfolk?





A- Only the strong can live amongst the Skarrn. Else they will die of the plagues.

=They soon come to the iron grate at the top of the exit tunnel. Araedyr calls to the guards, and they open it up, leading out into a small rocky cave. They continue on, and a minute or so later come to the mouth of the cave, on the edge of the water at the bottom of the large banks of the river that runs through the Human town nearby=

A- Come, we must make haste.

=They set off down the banks of the river towards the town=

I give my eyes a little roll.

The legends. Had to come from somewhere, right?

=He chuckles slightly and sets the hammer back down on the ground, resting his hand on it like a cane again=

Hmph. If ya ask me, I'd say 'umans are just paranoid. Maybe there was a hybrid race at some point, but they couldnt have been monsters, right? I mean, not like the legends. Even then, they were probably all killed off anyway.

Monsters? Which Legends have you been listening to?

This piqued my curiosity.

The legends of the... agh, what was the name..?

=The Cubi thought for a moment, recalling the true name of the Deepwoodfolk=

The.. Rogydin? Yeah, thats it. The hybrid monsters that attacked villages and murdered the innocent.

=He leaned on his hammer=

I dont think the real Roggies could have been as bad as all that.

Rohgedyn.

I corrected him on the name.

I don't think we heard the same stories. You should tell me the ones you've heard.

=He smirked a bit, coming up off his hammer. He stepped over in front of the forge and sat down on a large Stone block near the Stranger. He motioned to a chair behind him as well=

Whell, from what the Legends tell, way back in the days of yore, the Daemonil and Aeravil actually got along pretty good. Enough so that eventually, a hybrid race came about, born of the Revaer and Romanii. Eventually, for whatever reason, the hybrids, callin' themselves, what was it, Rohgedyn? Rebelled against the other races of the world. They attacked villages, slaughtered hundreds of innocents, until eventually a council was held between the races on what to do with them. An agreement was made to wipe them out, and they were eventually chased off to Deepwood, never to be seen again.

=He paused for a moment=

Like I said, I think it's all exaggerated.

People really believe that story?

I would have spat on the ground in disgust if I hadn't had been wearing my neckerchief pulled up.

How could, in a time of peace, a newborn race want to kill everything?

=He shrugged=

Some say they wanted their own country, some say it was racial injustice that drove them to hate. There's a lot a' storied on what happened. Probably none of 'em true.

Glad to be back up.

I kick a little bit of dirt.

We were taught that the Rohgedyn were driven into Deepwood because of shame. The two "Great Races", as it were, looked at what they had created and were afraid and ashamed of it. So they hunted it down to extinction.

=He seemed a little confused by what the stranger was saying=

Great Races? Thats not somethin' I ever 'eard. What tribe did ya say you were from?

I didn't.

I look over to the side, watching the street.

The Great Races. Angellica and Demonita. The humans were the Lesser Race. And we. We were nothing but an accident to them.

=The Cubi's eyes widened a bit, and he smirked a little, leaning forward and putting the Hammer in front of him between his legs to rest his hands on the handle=

We... There's more to ya than meets the eye, kid. I can tell that.

I turn and stare at the Smith with wide eyes, realising too late my slip. I give a little sigh.

I'm not a kid.

=He chuckled a bit=

'Course not. Yer 'bout the size of a Romanii, I'd say yer probably old enough to take a mate. Am I right?

=He laughed a little and spoke jesteringly=

Roggyboy?

=stretches his arms a bit once they got outside=

I give him a glare for a second, my eyes darting to back outside the smithy.

=The Smith laughed hartily=

Hardly a predicament, m'lad. There are people in this town, good, honest people, who can help ya along. We're a small town, closely knit.






=Eventually, Araedyr, Xazhi, Aeris, and Arrun approached the town. They came to a small Bridge which crossed the small river and lead to the other side of town. It was about 20 or 30 feet long, maybe 10 across, and was about 10 feet above them. Araedyr kept close to the riverbanks, which were now too steep to walk up on the side of the land, and dropped less than a foot into the water on the side of the River. Xazhi followed him closely. He came to a wooden door under the bridge, covered with dirt and mud, embedded into the bank under the bridge. He knocked thrice. A small hole opened in it through which bright blue eyes looked. It then closed, and the sound of ten or more locks turning could be heard. The door opened, and there stood a Human. neither he nor Araedyr said anything, and the Human lead the group inside to a dark room. A cellar, with a rough wood floor, stone walls, and lit by a single torch near the ladder that lead down to it. There were also some shelves in the room filled with various foods and drinks in barrels and crates. The space of the room which could be stood in was roughly 12x12 feet, and had a handful of crates on the floor to sit on. Araedyr and the Human sat down, and Xazhi soon followed=

?- Where are you taking them?

A- We must see Grundur.

=The Human nodded. Xazhi was by now totally confused as to what was happening=

You really believe most of the people in this town wouldn't shun me for what I am?

I wasn't sure of this.

=The Blacksmith glanced in two directions and lowered his voice=

There's a lot more to this small town that meets the eye, Deepwooder.

You didn't answer my question.

I pointed it out to him.
